The band have also announced their album launch show at the Barfly on 20 November.
The Italian native, London based quartet have already made quite an impact on the UK scene with their unique progressive sound, gaining a strong London following as well as making fans in muso stars Anna Phoebe and Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree). Edwin quickly became a big supporter which led to him collaborating with the band, resulting in an appearance on the album track ‘In Front Of You’
Edwin commented: “It’s always nice to hear the finished thing when you’ve worked on something. There’s strong music, good playing and performances, there’s some cool sounds going on, a good selection of moods and atmospheres”.
The band also caught the ears of Prog mag who featured the album track ‘Anytime’ on their August cover CD.
With a startlingly diverse set of individual backgrounds, ranging from musical theatre to extreme metal, Mercutio prove on their dazzling debut album, Back To Nowhere, that this band are transcending boundaries at will and creating some hugely powerful and affecting alternative rock anthems in the process.
The fruits of several years of gigging and tinkering, Back To Nowhere was recorded at the renowned Assault & Battery Studio in London, with esteemed desk guru Andy Wright [Jeff Beck/Simple Minds] at the controls and co-produced by Gianluca Cucchiara. Boasting 12 meticulously crafted salutes to artistic liberation, the album was mixed to spine-tingling perfection by Gavin Goldberg, with the exception of ‘Back To Nowhere’, which was mixed by Alan Moulder [Foo Fighters/A Perfect Circle/Nine Inch Nails] late in 2014.
The team behind the record is completed by executive producer Giovanna Romagnoli, who’s best known for producing “Cinema Paradiso”, which was awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1990.
One of the album’s many highlights, No Compromise, has already been included on the soundtrack of a new movie, L’Esigenza di Unirmi Ogni Volta Con Te [English title: Getaway Of Love], directed by noted Italian filmmaker Tonino Zangardi: another sure sign that Mercutio are about to invade the global hive mind and make an enduring mark.
Drummer Francesco Lucidi has taken some of his own steps towards global domination. He will feature in the soon-to-be-released Guitar Hero Live as the drummer of in-game band Blackout Conspiracy.
Back To Nowhere crackles and hums with inspirational fervour and its creators’ sublime creative chemistry, while also containing an important, empowering message for anyone willing to succumb to its charms.
The band will soon be announcing UK / European tour dates in addition to the album launch show on 20 November at the Camden Barfly, stay tuned for more details.
