Suicide Silence
Valentijnsdag nadert gestaag. De dag dat Suicide Silence het album Become The Hunter uitbrengt via Nuclear Blast Records. De band slaat met nieuwe album keihard toe. De video van Two Steps is nu online gezet.

Bury Tomorrow
Metalcoregigant Bury Tomorrow liet met het album Black Flame horen dat ze een blijvertje zijn. Nog altijd ageren ze tegen bands waarbij je voor veel centen een meet & greet kan bijwonen. Bury Tomorrow is blij dat het publiek naar hen komt en na een concert worden er gewoon handjes geschud. 3 april komt het nieuwe album uit en de compositie/titelnummer Cannibal is nu van een video voorzien.

Allen/Olzon
Russel Allen (Symphony X, Adrenaline Mob) heeft al drie uitstekende albums op zijn naam staan met Jorn Lande. Drie albums waaraan producer Magnus Karlsson zeker een belangrijke bijdrage heeft geleverd. Nadat Allen en Karlsson elkaar even niet hebben gezien hebben ze de talenten weer gebundeld maar zijn nu de samenwerking aangegaan met Anette Olzon. Fans van Allen/Lande zullen ook dit album, dat bij Frontiers Records uitkomt, kunnen omarmen en fans van Delain, Within Tempation of Nightwish kunnen het schijfje moeiteloos aanschaffen.

We Came As Romans
Het is alweer twee jaar geleden dat We Came As Romans me positief verraste met het album Cold Like War. “Elke criticus zou zich achter de oren moeten krabben wanneer hij dit album in de hoek wegzet. Cold Like War is een album waarin We Came As Romans zich juist in het middelpunt neerzet.” (Rockportaal).
Het noodlot sloeg in augustus 2018 toe voor de band met het tragisch overlijden van toetsenist/zanger Kyle Pavone. From The First Note is het eerst werk dat we van de band te horen krijgen sindsdien.
“‘FTFN’ is a song that celebrates the time that we got to spend with Kyle and acknowledges how truly remarkable of a brother and bandmate he was” says Moore. “Lyrically, I was able to reference ‘To Plant a Seed and ‘Tracing Back Roots’ – which were both written about the start of the band and how we lived together.  I was able to take Kyle‘s recorded vocal from ‘TPAS’ and fit it into the bridge of the song, so we can always hear him when we listen and play it”.
“We wrote ‘From The First Note’ as a promise to Kyle to not only preserve the amazing moments and memories we had together, but to continue carrying on the legacy of everything we built together” says Glass. “The video portrays the band playing in a dream-like state, surrounded by beautiful colors and flowers. Our albums throughout the years have had themes of roots, branches, and overall growth. So we felt it was only right to create something that not only captured that essence but persevered it as well”.
“Being able to watch our fans connect with us through music over the last decade has been an amazing privilege, and it all started with ‘To Plant A Seed’. Way back in 2009 when we recorded it, we had no idea where it would take us or what we were really even doing, and it’s awesome to see that we can play these songs still, and feel that connection with you”. He continued: “But over the course of 10 years, we’ve released four other albums and we’re even working on a fifth!”.

Marco Hietala
Terwijl Floor Jansen de popprijs wint en zich opmaakt voor haar reeks soloconcerten heeft Marco Hietala ook niet stil gezeten en op 24 januari verschint zijn solo-album Pyre Of The Black Heart. Er is nu een video verschenen van de compositie The Voice Of My Father. Een compositie die qua muziek een aardig eind afligt van Nightwish of zijn band Tarot. 17 februari kun je Marco zien in de Melkweg in Amsterdam.

Demons & Wizards
Het is alweer een maand geleden dat we de eerste video van Demons & Wizards te zien kregen. Het duo Kürsch/Schaffer heeft nu de audio van Midas Disease online gezet. Midas Disease komt eveneens van het nieuwe album III dat eind februari uitkomt via Century Media Records.

My Dying Bride
Het Britse doomcollectief My Dying Bride trapt het jaar af met de video van Your Broken Shore dat afkomstig is van het aankomende album The Ghost Of Orion.
Zanger Aaron Stainthorpe over “Your Broken Shore”:
“The first song from MY DYING BRIDE for five years comes laced with passion, power and their unyielding desire to create the most thoughtful and heavy music possible.
‘Your Broken Shore’ is recognisably theirs despite an evolution spanning 30 years, it’s new and fresh but with unmistakable provenance and production surpassing anything they have previously released.
This track represents just a taster of things to come as the new LP “The Ghost of Orion” is upon the horizon containing seven further compositions of deliciously crushing gothic doom/death metal.”

Polaris
Na The Mortal Coil komt het Australische Polaris, na hevig aandringen van de fans, met een video bij Hypermania dat ook te vinden is op het tweede album The Death Of Me.
“Hypermania is a song about losing your grip on reality, questioning your sanity, and feeling like you’re on the verge of an explosion all the time. Paranoia, mood swings, white-knuckling your way through the day just barely holding it together. The whole lyrical direction was inspired very directly by the music itself. Rick (Schneider, guitar) has this knack for writing these kind of Southern-hardcore-meets-nu-metal riffs that no one else in the band could write, stuff that’s really noisy, abrasive and discordant, but also tight and bouncy, and that’s where this song began.”  legt Daniel Furnari uit.
“We sort of deliberately leaned into the chaos of the song in order to try and break away from some of our own writing conventions. Songs that are one hundred percent screamed vocals all the way through are pretty rare for us, but when we were writing this track it was pretty clear to us that clean melodic vocals wouldn’t fit the vibe and energy we were hearing instrumentally, so we really focussed on what we could do with both Jamie and Jake to get the right character across for the song with just screams.
Jake has always done a few screamed parts here and there in our live set, but this was the first time that it’s really felt right to incorporate that on record so it was really cool for us to be able to add that to the palate of sounds on this album and contrast him with Jamie in a new way. We definitely pushed the hell out of both of them in this track and spent a lot of time trying to capture that feeling of anxiety and paranoia we wanted to convey, and I feel like that really paid off in the performances you hear in the end product. 
We started adding this song to our live set towards the end of last year and the energy from the crowd has been batshit crazy every time we’ve played it. The internet has been starting to demand pretty firmly that we release it, and we’ve been itching to get it out for everyone to finally hear it properly, so here it is!”

The World Alive
Gezien het aantal hits op Youtube in een week, werd ik nieuwsgierig naar The World Alive die met Monomania laten horen dat ze wel een potje muziek kunnen spelen die enigszins schuurt tegen de metalcore, maar zeker een zeer toegankelijk karakter kent.
