Sludge metal? Ja, soms. Black metal? Ja, af en toe. Grindcore, jep, is er ook. Postrock? Yes. Kortom: Geweldige plaat.

There is something beautiful in elusiveness. A song usually consists of a verse and a chorus. That is a stronghold, it triggers recognition points so that a song becomes an earworm for a long time. Malevich does not do couplets and choruses. Their songs are super-fast deadly insects that torture their prey. First, they sting the victim with their poisonous tale, then they chase him at ease, while the neurotoxin slowly does the work. When their prey is weakened and paralyzed, Malevich slowly comes closer. It checks whether the prey is really well intoxicated by the poison. To be sure, it punctuates the victim dozens of times at lightning speed while making a high pitched screeching noise. The poison consumes the organs and the Malevich drinks them from the open wounds, after which it slowly crawls towards its hiding place.
Conclusion: The album is an unstable marathon in mental breakdown and confusion, and therefore very impressive. The best songs are Spent and the brilliantly titled Useless Talents, Promised Greatness. The band can be placed in any genre. Sludge metal? Yes sometimes. Black metal? Yes, occasionally. Grindcore, yes, is there too. Postrock? Yes. In short: Awesome record.
