Lonely Robot
John Mitchell, gitarist, singer-songwriter en producer, bekend van zijn werk met It Bites, Frost*, Arena en Asia, heeft het laatste Lonely Robot-album aangekondigd. An Ending verschijnt op 11 september 2026 via White Knight Records, op cd en vinyl.
Mitchell begon Lonely Robot, geïnspireerd door één enkele afbeelding: Carl Sagan die verzocht om de camera’s van Voyager 2 om te draaien voordat de sonde ons zonnestelsel voorgoed verliet. Wat terugkwam was de Pale Blue Dot, een foto van de aarde vanaf 6,0 miljard kilometer afstand. Een nauwelijks zichtbaar stipje zwevend in een lichtstraal. Die afbeelding, en alles wat Sagan erover schreef, is waar Lonely Robot is ontstaan.
In vijf albums heeft Mitchell een astronaut gevolgd die gestrand is in de ruimte en niet naar huis kan terugkeren. Hij staart naar die bleekblauwe stip en stelt dezelfde vragen waar Sagan zijn leven lang mee worstelde. Wat zijn we? Waarom gedragen we ons zoals we doen? Wat betekent het om mens te zijn? De eerste drie Lonely Robot-albums richtten zich op onze eigen soort. De vierde en vijfde nummers richtten de blik naar binnen, toen de astronaut dezelfde zwakheden die hij in de mensheid had waargenomen, ook in zichzelf begon te herkennen. De grote filosofische vragen werden iets veel persoonlijkers. Het grote geheel en het individuele leven blijken in wezen hetzelfde te zijn.
An Ending is waar de twee verhaallijnen eindelijk samenkomen. Mitchell had altijd al het gevoel dat dit het einde van Lonely Robot zou zijn, maar de ontdekkingsreis en de acceptatie van de astronaut waren een belangrijk verhaal om te vertellen.
Mitchell zegt: “Met dit album wilde ik de cirkel van het Lonely Robot-universum sluiten en een aantal elementen terugbrengen die het schrijfproces in eerste instantie inspireerden.”
De astronaut heeft nu de volledige afstand afgelegd. Hij accepteert eindelijk dat hij nooit meer naar huis zal terugkeren. Hoewel dat verdriet met zich meebrengt, is er uiteindelijk ook vrede.
Mitchell besluit: “Ik hoop dat de fans van Lonely Robot dit een passend epiloog vinden voor het meest creatieve decennium van mijn leven.”

Crowen komt uit Finland en speelt deathmetal. De band brengt het debuutalbum uit in 2027. Maar van de single I Live On Darkness And Sorrow is nu ook een video verschenen.

“I Live on Darkness and Sorrow is built around a dark and melancholic atmosphere, where sorrow is not merely a heavy emotion, but also a source of strength. Darkness is not portrayed as fear or hopelessness, but as beauty, a place where a person finds meaning, strength, and ultimately themselves.
The song’s chord progression moves in a continuous cycle, reinforcing its sense of sorrow and melancholy. Oppressive background guitars maintain a hypnotic, repetitive atmosphere while adding even more weight and intensity to the song.
Anni Dohlen, Dark Fusion Bellydancer, brought her own artistic vision to the music video. Her dance blended naturally into the video’s atmosphere and visual style.
The first time I saw one of Anni’s dance clips, I was instantly excited. I remember thinking how beautiful it was, and somehow I immediately pictured her as part of this song’s world. I’m really glad she decided to join the project. She’s an incredibly talented dancer with a style that’s entirely her own.
The only person I could truly imagine filming this video was Elsa Wellamo. We previously worked together on the Where The Darkness Falls music video, and from the very beginning I knew I wanted her to direct this one as well. Elsa is simply exceptional at what she does.”
Anni Dohlen:
“The dance was mainly improvised, although I had created a choreography for the song. While filming, the movements were adjusted to the location and to the instructions given by the videographer. Yet, the choreography served as a good base from which to modify the movements. Elsa has a perfect eye for filming and Crowen’s music fit to my taste of music well, so the project was a very pleasant collaboration.”
Elsa Wellamo:
“I have to say, I was genuinely happy when I was invited once again to film Crowen’s new music video. Working with Esa is always a hell of a lot of fun. He’s one of those people who makes collaboration feel effortless, even when the subject matter is at its darkest.
He’s an outstanding musician, a gifted songwriter, and above all, someone with whom it’s natural to create something beautiful.
The song’s theme resonated with me immediately. It exists on the boundary between this world and the next — where time comes to an end, but love carries on.
At first, it felt almost contradictory to shoot such a dark music video in bright, blazing sunshine. But in the end, it turned out to be a perfect reflection of the song’s spirit. Maybe it’s those of us who remain here who are left in the darkness. And perhaps those who have passed beyond time into eternity are the ones who walk in the light.
That’s why the bright sunlight never felt out of place, even though a darker setting might have seemed like the obvious choice at first.
And Anni… what an incredible person to film. And her attitude! We both spent five hours barefoot in a swamp. Five hours. Yet the cold, the wet, and every other discomfort simply never showed in her.
Anni’s dancing had exactly the sensitivity and presence this song needed. More often than not, she understood what I was looking for from just half a sentence. That kind of trust between a director and a performer is incredibly valuable.
