Op deze kortste dag van het jaar op het noordelijk halfrond brengt Juodvarnis uit Litouwen (waar het waarschijnlijk de hele dag donker is) de single Laikui Varvant uit. Het is inmiddels de derde single van het aankomende album Tèkmès dat op 23 januari 2026 zal worden uitgebracht .
Juodvarnis is een metalband die elementen uit de dark-, death-, black- en progressieve metal met elkaar verbindt en daardoor een geluid neerzetten dat brutaal maar eveneens introvert klinkt.

Minutes pass like seconds, days turn into hours, and years flip from one to the next like pages of a fast-read novel.‘Laikui Varvant’ is a reflection of this feeling. With this song and its accompanying video, we want to take you to a place where time does not exist — and perhaps, even if only for a moment, dim that heavy feeling inside together.”

Amorphis heeft afgelopen week ook een nieuwe single uitgebracht. Niet een single dat op Borderland te vinden is, maar een compositie die zij voor een film schreven. De film “Son of Revenge – The Story of Kalevala” verschijnt in januari en Antti J. Jokinen wilde heel graag dat Amorphis de muziek voor de film zou schrijven.
Esa Holopainen zegt hierover: “Director Antti Jokinen got in touch with us and briefly told us about his ambitious film project. We arranged a meeting with him during which we were able to see visual material from the film and go through the script. Antti hoped that AMORPHIS would create the film’s theme song – a project we agreed to immediately.”
“AMORPHIS’ music feels like strength wrapped in beauty – heavy enough to shake the landscape yet poetic. Their music really lifts my spirit into the world of Kalevala myths and its characters.
